Installation problem with 5.3 RC 2

I just got a installation problem. Might have been a fluke, but for posterity:

  • Executed UnityDownloadAssistant-5.3.0f2.exe
  • Forgot to close a Visual Studio window during installation
  • Installer prompts “Can’t download documentation: Retry Abort Ignore”
  • Closed the VS window, chose Retry
  • Then I forgot what happened (maybe I pressed Ignore at some point)
  • Tried to launch Unity.exe, closes immediately
  • Editor Log: Unable to load mono library from “C:/Program Files/Unity 5.3/Editor/Data/Mono/EmbedRuntime/mono.dll” (error = 5)
  • Explored to the installation folder, couldn’t open the Editor/Data folder due to insufficient rights
  • Re-installation failed
  • Uninstalled, after restarting the installation folder was empty.
  • Installed succesfully with the separate installers in the temp folder
  • Launched succesfully

Thanks for the feedback. Passed along to packaging team, and there’s difficulty ascertaining what happened in the VStudio install point so it’s unclear how to recover in some regards.

We fixed the documentation download issue (publish was incorrect if memory serves), so hopefully that is resolved and this shouldn’t happen again.
