I am more of a developer and feel comfortable with the scripting side of things, but to be honest my artistic side is not as developed I was wanting to get back to playin with unity but with a 2.5d side scroller. I was wondering if there were any good tutorials for setting up the world. In my head I am thinkin something like Shadow Complex.
What I am hoping for is a run through on the best ways to build the levels…good practices to follow…how to line up planes for floors so there is no overlap, etc. Is it recommended to build the world in Unity? I dont care if it is something I have to buy or is free, either one would be helpful. I am looking for a good foundation if it is possible. The projects like this have had me download the full project and then perform connections with code, but I havent had any luck with the artistic level building side.
Well for a 2.5D game you have to make the player feel as if they are in a 3D World yet well they are still inside a 2D one. Such as make a 8 direction controller system and do things like when collision with roof of building, make the building dissapear and have a under floor to make it seem as if you walked behind a building. Things like that will help the game a lot, if you need help getting ideas on how to do this, you can try googling “XGenStudio - Stick RPG 2” its a 2.5D game with a great setup, check it out and see how they do different things.
Thanks so much for the reply! In case anyone else replies, I am also interested in any tips for laying out the levels, such as matching one plane to the next. Is it a large hit if I lay one plane next to anotehr to build the floor or is this unadvisable and is it a better idea to just take one plane and stretch it.
Last night I bought a sci-fi model kit on the store and they have floors, so these were some things I was having questions about last ngiht and was thinking there must be a better way. So if there are any tuts that are out there that anyone has seen, preferably video, I would love to know the location.
Thanks again BondoGames for the reply! In case anyone hasn’t seen the game it is an older release on the xbox360 and a screenshot is below.
