I’m currently in the prototyping stages working with unity and i’m working on ways to have real size terrains in unity.
I was wondering if there was a lot of interest if i released this as an asset?
Current design goals:
Targets DX11mode in unity 4 only
imports world machine non tiled as a single terrain (no tiled builds artefacts!), up to 256X256KM from world machine, keeping the same size in unity*
Includes automatic import of splatmaps (1 per texture) from world machine
Imports the world sized colormap/normalmap
up to 16 or more normal mapped textures will be supported (still testing this, not sure), each with their individual splat, no messing around with individual colors, the Tools will do this for you.
Large exemple world generation file for world machine, split in 9 phases and showing how to model multi generation multi mask worlds to add diversity and human touches in those large worlds.
I’m currently designing this for my own uses but was wondering if there would be interest for something like this including Professional support on the asset store, note that this wouldn’t be a “indiy priced” package however, but it would make going from a world machine file to a single high detail fully textured with 3 levels of détails blended by distance terrain a 1 click venture!
Edit : secondary question for those interested in this, how interested would you be in renting hours of a very large single machine with world machine on it, allowing you to render VERY large NON TILED worlds for use with this tool? And would having a few hours “free” included with the package raise your interest in this package? (i’m talking something like 64 cores 512GB ram machine here, something that could make those 16KX16K world machine projects possible)
Edit2: note that this package would require world machine pro too.
For sure there is an interest it just depends on cost benefits analysis if it worth to buy.
Would be interested to see some insight in how it’s coming along, screen shots etc.
Way way too early for screenshots, really in the technical design phase, just wondering if i make it specific to me, or if there’s a market for it to make it generic.
Also i may have miss expressed the server time rental, i meant something more specific like you send me a world machine file, specify the resolution to run it at, and i get it done for a fee, i don’t know if there’s a market for that too, but i know that to generate a good looking colormap for a large (256KM on each side) world, 1024 res isn’t going to cut it, and for a complex graph we’re talking month of continuous running for a high res shot on a large complex terrain.
