I’ve been working on an authorative server implementation for a 10 player FPS style game using the incredible Lidgren library for networking during the past couple of weeks, the networking is starting to get pretty solid to where it supports things like RPC, input prediction, entity smoothing and lag compensation.
As I’m pretty new to unity I wanted to see if Lidgren even is used together with unity before I started cleaning up code, writing documentation, etc. to release it as an asset store package (free or not). And if there’s any interest in a full networking example with Lidgren.
Yep, it’s used by people as it’s completely free. Someone is working on one but he has been doing this for the past year i think and still not released it as far as i know. So if you want to release it, it would be a nice contribution to the community. You could even post it on the Wiki.
Ok, good to know it’s used. Really love that library, one of the best libraries all round that I’ve ever used. I think it would be a bit to much code to go on the wiki, looking at something like 5-6k lines currently.
Or a free project in the asset store…
Assuming you want to put it up for free…
You could also put a price on it and put it on the asset store, it’s up to you. ( if the lib allows you to, not sure about that…)
If I end up selling it’s not going to be a lot, like 5-10 bucks tops. But probably I won’t and it’ll be free, started on the code cleanup right now, will probably take a week or two since I have to got o my day job and put bread on the table for the misses
