Distribution of genres and platform since 1975:

Nice find!
Assuming this is accurate, I’m surprised to see that, despite feeling like they have fallen out of favor in the last decade or so, adventure game have maintained a steady share of the market over the years.
Ughhhhh i hate that!!! Stupid mac is too small!
Whats the lime green on the bottom one?
That’s why I included the link to the original image, so that you could see the original size. But I think the lime green that you are asking about is “Wii U”
Neat diagram. Interesting that Windows is still such a big platform for games, which a lot of people seem to be ignoring as they get caught up in the mobile devices… although ipad etc are strong too. You can also see where PC/Windows exploded in the 90’s when 3D games started coming out.
Very cool, thank you. Looks like most genres have settled to a certain market share. Poor shoot em ups. ![]()
Windows means GRAFFIX that wll always make it a contender, interesting graphic and makes one wonder on the success of genre striding titles… seeing it like that makes you wonder how you can tie some zeitgeist to another
iOS+puzzle FTW!
Is android \ other phone too small or lumped in with something else?
Looks like Android was left off, I am trying to find the source for this graphic. I lifted this out of a tweet.
Edit:
I found the source: Reddit - Dive into anything
On that page the Android question came up as well, it looks as if the database he scraped is a user contributed db, and no one contributed any data for Android games, or just lumped them under iPhone.
You can’t really take that graph seriously, because for instance, the pc gaming market is hugely casual too like farmville etc…
And?
The problem I have with the graph is I don’t know the source, or the metrics used - not a bias against any one form of gaming.
Is the Wii-u in this graph not far to long? like it came out in 2011 or 2010?
Android
Adventure games will never die!
Looks like an action-adventure-strategy-puzzle game would do well.
