Interior design... need help :C

Hi. I don’t know if there was a thread about this but anyway…
I want to create a horror game, so i also need to create some kind of mansion but i’ve no idea how to create and interior. I know where to get models from and how to fill in the space but i don’t want to create whole game out of blocks… and don’t say 3ds max because i don’t get this program.

Help meeee … :CCC

I see three options here:

  • Buy the assets

  • Pay someone to produce them for you

  • Get over your laziness and learn Blender, 3ds, Maya or whatever your 3d modeling application of choice is

I would have recommended Blender… but that’s a whole lot worse than 3ds max. :stuck_out_tongue:

Asset Store?

Many of these are kits that you can click together to build your own custom mansions.

Ty for your answers guys, but it’s important for me to get it for free because it will be my first game and it will be just indie with free models from turbosquid, free textures and tutorials from yt. I must also add that i’m a newbie in unity… :c
Maybe i will try 3ds max again… can you recommend any good tutorials for this?
Or if i will not be able to do this i will go for some kind of slenderman game in the forest… and if i will do so i have another question… when i create a skybox in unity 5 i cannot change it’s colour and i see blue sky through the fog… can you give me a link for the old skybox from unity 4 if you have it? Or just tell me how to change it. :C

Actually I also hate Max, but learned basic Blender skills in under 3 weeks (back then it was Blender 2.3x so GUI was even less intuitive). So it’s worth a try for the OP.

Sure. Get a book on interior design, start with your house. Learn the names for things like curtains, drapes, blinds, windows, window sills, bay windows, shutters, door jambs, shutters, etc. Then learn about construction from the era you want to recreate, learn how houses were built back then and the types of furniture and decor they would have used back then. To get good enough to design an entire mansion and have it look great, I would say you’ll be proficient around 2021 if you study and really get into it.

I love 3ds max, I couldn’t live without it, I hate any other 3d program aside from ZBrush. I guess I love max so much because I used to use Gmax (for C&C Renegade modding). That was the first 3d package I used. So when I got my hands on max I could never turn to anything else, I’ve tried, just can’t do it lol.

Could always try this: https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/11919

It’s free and if you like it, has an upgrade with more features.

Did they add even more features to the free version?

No idea. I have Game Draw which is depreciated and never used it anyway. Found this one when I was looking for Game Draw to suggest.

http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax Try Gmax (It’s free) and it’s like 3ds max. Just not as much stuff, but hey it’s free. Not sure what all it can export too, I haven’t used it in over 10 years lol.

After watching few tutorials i found out that 3ds max is easier to use than i though. Gonna try it then
Thank you for your answers guys!

Wait, so you have zero money to spend on assets but you can buy 3DS Max and don’t know how to use it? I’d be concerned about priorities. Maybe you should use that 3DS Max money to buy assets and use a free 3D Modeling program like Blender.

Old Quake formats appears to be about it.

They may be using a student license (or a torrent).

Ahh okay, so now obj export or anything? Because can’t Unity use Obj as well?

Haven’t searched for an OBJ exporter, but GMax itself only comes with support for something called Plasma.

I assumed the latter to be true, so my post was really a bit facetious.

if you want to create horror games with 3D effects the first see the hollywood movies like riddick, the last witch hunter. From there you got some brilliant ideas.

no, no ! I think he is in the 3ds Max trial period… :stuck_out_tongue:
