From reading the web pages about Unity 4 it looks like the cost of the ios basic package will be £125. At the moment it costs $400. Have I got that right?

No. You are probably looking at the upgrade price from iOS 3.x to iOS 4.x. If you want to share the links which mention the £125 I can get that changed so no-one is confused.
If you buy the license now (and not as an addon to an existing one in which case you can choose if it is a U3 or U4 one), then yes it will work with Unity 4 and the best is it will also work with U3
