Hey fellow unity devs,
I won’t be putting my marketing fluff on here, instead I’ll tell you a short story so others can either do or not do what I did, depending on what happens in the next weeks
I’ve initially released Unixo in august. A week and a half later, it was featured in Taiwan and Italy, but in fairly deep categories. It landed 10k downloads and has dropped to pretty much nothing now that it isn’t featured anymore.
Initially, I was unhappy with the visual state of the game, but I felt like iterating on my programmer art wasn’t getting anything done, so I released it.
Anyways, post-launch, I’ve decided to reskin the game, and then came a huge debate on wether or not I should submit as a new game, or as an update. Some people bought IAPs and I finally decided that they deserved the full experience and all content derived from the initial game, so I went with updating.
Right now, everything has changed but the root mechanics. I have absolutely no idea how Apple will respond to that. I’m going to build up my best sales pitch, try my luck and report back in a few weeks with how things went.
I’ve left the old screenshots for historical purposes.
