Hi,

I have searched a bit and still found no conclusive answer regarding how one can expect the iPad to perform, so I have a few questions.

I have built and measured (using instruments): Startrooper, a custom simple scene using some transparency and 5 drawcalls with EZ Gui, a custom 9 draw call polygon model of 2600 verts.

In all cases the frame rate according to instruments hovers around 30 fps. Is this what can be expected? Is this due to the Unity engine or the iPad - I get the impression some non-Unity games run quicker? Finally, can Instruments be trusted when measuring Unity stats?

Many thanks in advance and sorry for the ignorance.
Best,
Dan

Indeed you can expect that the framerate will not exceed the maximum you’ve allowed, which is 30fps by default.

allowed? interesting. I didn’t realize there was a way to restrict FPS. Where would this setting be, Eric?

The AppController.mm file.

I found it. You have to edit appcontroller.mm in the xcode project. The variable kFPS is the max framerate. (Found this on Unityanswers).

Is this and other similar things documented somewhere officially?

Cheers,
Dan

Yes, for example kFPS is described in the “Tuning Main Loop Performance” section of the docs.

Excellent - thanks. Will have to read that section of the docs more carefully. 🙂
