I’m pleased to announce iPhone 3D Game Programming All in One! This 400 page game development book takes readers from conception to completion on a casual flight simulator (Tropical Tailspin) revealing every sketch, algorithm, and decision that went into the game. The book is geared toward novices who are interested in Unity iPhone development but also dives into some fairly advanced topics such as fixed wing flight mechanics with the creation of a basic flight model that allows for flips and barrel rolls that ultimately feels similar to some of the big boy flight sims out there on the iPhone.
If you’re a fan of the Games Demystified articles on Gamasutra that I write then this book should be enjoyable for you. The subject matter is deeper but the goal is the same, to showcase the science behind the fun.
The book should arrive in stores during the first 2 weeks of June!
Congrats! Glad to see Unity get some coverage. Does the book deal exclusively with Unity?
Looks great! I just pre-ordered it!
FYI: I had to look through the description info in order to see that it had to do with Unity - I’m surprised I don’t see Unity3D mentioned on the cover.
I believe that it does mention Unity on the back cover of the book in the description (although you can’t see that online). The book is being pushed more toward development for the iPhone instead of development with Unity, although it’s certainly all based in Unity.
I bought this book thinking it was a dream book on how to make a flight sim and it may yet be.
I’ve been working trough it did the first part Tropical 1 no problem plane fly’s very nice using unity 1.7 included with book and got it working fine in unity 3.
My problem is part 2 adding in more flight mechanics every time I hit play the plane just moves forward a bit and then nose’s up in a climb with only the ability to roll left and right is something missing from book on this?
also it never tells in book where to attach Camera.js but I figured that out.
I’ve not moved any further into book want to figure this out first any advice would be appreciated.
thanks
Bill
