iPhone related

A few questions about iPhone games:

1: How do you configure input for iPhone?

2: Do buttons work the same as they do on platforms?

3: How do you export iPhone apps?

4: How do you submit your apps to the Apple Store when you’re done?

Simple: you can’t

Unity has no iPhone support

Soon it will…hopefully by the end of the summer

Cant wait!

What was that big banner on their main page then? and how can I get my game ready so that transferring is no big deal?

Probably the announcement that an iPhone version is coming. Note the future tense.

Wait until they release information about it? The only thing we know so far is that you probably don’t want to go over 7000 polygons.

K. I’ll have to reduce my graphics a little then. Not that it matters to me in particular, but how does the iPhone handle image based post-processing? (glow, motion blur, other stuff)

To be honest it probably doesn’t =(

Alright. Thanks everyone!

To any Unity Employees, or any other people who might have this information, when can I expect the iPhone exporter release (cause a guy said end of summer, and this is definately that time)?

You probably want to read the iPhone topic, where this has already been discussed. In short, nothing is definite and won’t be until it’s been released. The end of summer isn’t for another month anyway.

It’s possibly late summer, could be early fall, we don’t have a final release date to share so that’s still a bit up in the air. We’re still in development and working hard to make it happen as soon as we can, we just hope that folks can hang in there while we nail things down so we can release the power of Unity on to the iPhone!

How is that gonna be released? Is it going into the Pro version, or just standard, and will you have to pay extra?

Tom has answered very similar questions in a few other threads. A search should find those for you. The answer was that there are no official details yet, but they are coming ASAP.

We are eager to get some info as well, but they really can’t be counting their chickens before they are hatched, so to speak.

Plus they are at the mercy of Apple on this one as well, which throws another variable into the mix.

I have a love/hate relationship with Apple. There is no doubt they are in it for the money. Well, thanks everyone for answering my questions. I eagerly await any new news.

Yes, unlike those other computer companies who do it for charity.

Even Open Source software is, ultimately, not done for charity. IBM backs Linux it because every OS they’ve ever developed internally has flopped. The guy who runs Blender foundation gets paid a very nice salary.

That’s good to know. I love blender, but I can totally see that a smart guy could wring a lot of dough out of it.
