When I try to play two audio sources at once, only one plays and I get the following warning:
iPhone supports only single audio source with compressed audio.
-
Does this mean that if the audio is not compressed I can play multiple audio sources at once?
-
Or am I limited to only one audio source total?

I noticed that Zombieville can play a) music, b) gun shot and c) hit sounds all at the same time. Is there a trick to this?
Any suggestion on what audio format to use for un-compressed audio that has a reasonable size? A WAV version of one of my audio sources is about 8 times the MP3 version.
WAV is the correct format.
that it is 8 times as large is no problem cause you only use it for effects etc.
the background track can still be in mp3, no prob (you can play 1 compressed + x uncompressed. just keep in mind that uncompressed ones will eat memory and cpu time)
