Is 3D Wings Suitable for 3D Paper Monsters style models?

HI there. I want to create my own 3D models - i am a pro artist but a 3D noob - and basically want to create worlds which consist of low poly objects that are UV mapped with my illustrations and photoshopped textures etc - viz Paper Monsters - and so details will be in the actual artwork. Maybe a better description would be kids pop-up books only the pages would be solid shapes.
I want a program that i can master reasonably well and not take months and years. I only know of Blender and Wings3D. The former is amazing looking and the latter looks somewhat slim on features.
Please can someone offer advice and if you know of another FREE or cheap software (£50 - £100), i’d be interested to know and also any books / tutorials that would help me in this endeavor.
Thanks

Oops! It’s Wings3D - my bad. Sorry

Both of those will work well for modeling for modeling, although Wings3d is the simpler of the programs and is much easier to learn.

You have to ask yourself you want to add animation- Wings3D has no animation features.

If you don’t want to spend money then Blender is your best bet hands down. It can rival most commercial applications in most regards. Youtube is your best friend for learning here. Look for the Blender Institute DVDs. They are on Youtube because they are Creative Commons. It’s also as difficult to get into like the big apps, though. And it’s got its own kind of workflow.

If you want something commercial grade the maybe a Maya LT annual subscription is your way to go. It’s focused on gaming assets but is very compatible and also has lots of tutorials online. Also not the most easy to get into. But very affordable for a very solid toolset and very solid game export tools. On the other hand some tools are in there for a looooong time and you can feel it if you have worked with newere more streamlined tools (especially modeling).

Cinema 4D in a lower feature edition (like visualize for example) or Modo are your mid-price range professional apps. Cinema 4D is still probably the most easy commercial grade professional software to get into 3D modeling because it utilizes visual feedback for a lot of attributes and modifiers - something I wished many others would adopt. You don’t get sculpting in the low price range of Cinema though.

For everything else - please use search. This topic is one of the most discussed in external software on probably any board dedicated to beginner’s 3D art.

If you have specific questions - ask away.
If you want to know if I know what I’m talking about: look at the two items on the asset store I’ve got in my signature

Thanks for your help guys.
I don’t require animations in the software as i would be using Unity for motion, scaling, spinning, tweens etc and nothing complex. Blender does look amazing for a FREE tool but i’m hearing a lot on the forums about it having a convoluted workflow and difficult to master. Wings3D sounds easier and i have viewed some threads which answer some questions. Seems like a few people have problems importing into Unity.
I just want to create basic shapes that i can map with my own graphics and textures - that’s about as complex as it gets. My game / app will be more 2.5D actually - should have said that before, sorry!
Thanks again

I can’t say much about wings 3D but if you really just need very basic editing … have you had a look at the Pro Core Asset Tools?
They are available in the Asset Store and are probably your fastest way to create very basic geometry also directly in Unity. Have a look at the Youtube Channel and look through the videos there. It’s a really good asset and maybe even just the thing you are looking for. I use them myself and would not want to miss them.

Many thanks @the_motionblur for that info. Pro Core might be exactly what i’m looking for.
If i had the skills of this guy on youtube, i’d certainly use Blender as well.

It looks pretty nice because it’s a very stylized art style but it’s actually nothing overly fancy.
Nearly all skills are just a matter of time, dedication and practise

Glad I could help
