And create 3d games? I am an absolute beginner and don’t even have a laptop at present so this will be just for having a go at first . Also is the personal version enough?
- Does it have a GPU?
- the personal edition is enough to make a full game and even release it.
No is has a 4 core CPU and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB
So it does have a GPU.
How much ram? Unity being 64bit, 8 gB (or more) of ram would be suitable.
It’s only 8gb
Oh it does! Excellent haha
Should be good.
When you get it, install Unity Hub, then install the latest stable version of Unity, then open the Nvidia control panel (or whatever it’s called) and assign the GPU (your Nvidia card) to Unity. If you do not do that, Unity will run on the integrated graphics and it won’t be as efficient as it should be.
Awesome thanks for the tip
Is 8gb of ram really enough I would want to play games on the laptop as well as create
To play the most recent games, you’d need a lot more ram for sure… Double or triple.
OK do you have any recommendations as this is all very confusing for me. Someone on gamingscan has just informed me that no game out today uses more than 4gb
Just got to the Steam store and look the requirements for the recent games they sell.
One of the indie games I play from time to time is Space Engineers. Space Engineers will run on 8 GB but only just barely and only with very low game settings (it’s a voxel world so it’s the size of the world). For most other game settings it will crash if you have less than 12 GB, and for the very high settings it will crash if you have less than 16 GB.
That’s just my own experiences. For a detailed analysis of the memory usage of modern games I recommend the video in the spoiler below, but if you don’t have time for it the summary is “If you want to play the latest and greatest titles you will want 16 GB.” That said 8 GB will run the games but it will be a just barely run and performance won’t be great.
