Hi. I have Unity 19.3.9. I downloaded The Heretic model. Now the Game window is black and the Scene window is gray. Also, it turned all the Unity sample scene windows gray and Game windows black. I can’t see ANYTHING anymore. So when I go to play the Heretic Demo I get a message saying “Use Metals API instead”. But my Macbook is five years old and doesn’t have a metals compatible graphics card. So is this a graphics card problem? And how do I resolve it? I don’t think a metals compatible card will fit into my MacBook.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
A 5 year old macbook for something like ‘The Heretic’ is like trying to fly to the moon with a paper plane.
It is simply not up to the task.
Mac stuff is just not made for gaming performance. Working on a 2D project, or just coding on it will be fine.
For anything else you should get a ‘real PC’.
If you try to run something like ‘The Heretic’, or even make something like it yourself, you normally would
use a PC that is a really overpowered gaming machine.
Unity system requirements for Mac state a metal capable GPU is mandatory.
On a hunch I tried searching to see whether Apple themselves might be the reason for this requirement, and came up with the following article mentioning hardware with Metal API support will be mandatory starting with macOS 10.14.

Hardware capable of supporting Metal goes as far back as 2012. What’s your graphics hardware?
