I mean I’m no fan of Apple due to their restrictive ‘walled garden’ philosophies but this thing makes me more than a little excited. I imagine it’ll be priced at about 2x the cost of buying the actual parts separately, which is what would stop me from buying it, but damn I’d buy the thing just for the brilliance of the design. Not just aesthetically but this unified thermal core is brilliant (assuming it works as awesomely as they say).
I think the specs are nice, and its a brilliant machine, but it looks god awful
I think the way the system is cooled is brilliant.
$5,000?
Yeah it has that certain new car scent. It’s cool.
It’s the most powerful trash can I’ve ever seen.
yea, that sounds about right, for about $3000 worth of hardware. I wonder if we’re going to start seeing knock off cylindrical cases now with the same design(and 1/10th the price)
I think it looks beautiful!
I just dont think the shape of it is practical at all, like said above, its a a trash can.
I suppose it is practical in terms of the thermal core and fan. but i just dont like it, cant imagine it being in a work environment.
Love the new mac pro look! It looks like a alienware lol
But i’m so disappointed at apple for not refreshing their retina Macbook Pro’s… Seems that apple is going to make a refresh after their “back to school” campaign. A lot of people are going to be pissed off!
They refreshed the macbook pros last keynote? literally a few months ago.
It is extremely stylish and sleek, and the design is pretty neat. But if it’s really $5000, you can be sure that I won’t be getting one. I build my own boxes, and can assemble a unit with comparable performance for several thousand dollars less. I assembled a new box earlier this year that cost a fraction of that price, and will probably carry me for the next three years.
Um, looks like a waste basket to me ?
Doesn’t look very ‘functional’ being cylindrical, may look nice as a set-piece, but under the desk is going to be awkward.
However the insides and the reason for the design is damn cool. Though not sure just how ‘upgradable’ it will be for some parts, e.g. gpu?
Time will tell.
The current ones run > $10k once you finally spec them out. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one cost a ton after you actually configure it. Is nice though, maybe if I had funding and everything wasn’t out of my pocket.
Until I started developing for iOS, I had never owned a Mac device. And, even though Windows is my system of choice, I would be lying if I didn’t admit to having Nerd-Chills seeing the new Mac Pro. OMG - So simple and beautiful! Functionally elegance (single cooling system!!!). I won’t buy one, cause it’ll require a 2nd mortgage, but it’s everything the new PS4 and XBox are NOT.
Gigi.
PS - At 10x6.6 inches, it’s not much bigger than a tissue box. Heck, it’s smaller than my Dr Who Police Box Candy Jar!
I have yet to call a Windows machine “pretty”. I have seen plenty of beautiful designed Mac devices and this one surely is one of them. Having Darth Vader’s trashcan on your desk isn’t really a bad thing.
It will take some serious power of the dark side to get one of these things down to an affordable price too I imagine
I have seen many many great looking windows cases from wood, to plexiglass, to metal, and everything in between. … This mac pro reminds me of a decade ago when someone did a computer inside of a drier machine cylinder… Looked about the same as this.
People seem to be neglecting the size of the thing. It really shouldn’t be that awkward under the desk, as it is on 9.9" with a 6.6" diameter. I personally like the design and the power, even if it will undoubtedly have a hefty Malus tax.
