Is anyone else having problems with importing blender files from 2.69

I upgraded to the new version of blender (2.69), and unity now complains that “Blender could not convert the .blend file to FBX file.” Which is odd because I can export fbx fine. Even more weird, the issue comes and goes, its not always reproducible. Are others seeing this too?

If I remember right you can only import ascii FBXes and Blender export binary FBXes so it’s not round trip.

What is the highest version of Blender that Unity 4.2.2 imports from automatically? I know Blender 2.5.9 works with no issues, but I’m wondering about Blender 2.6 and above.

Import into Unity directly from blender files has worked fine for me for all of the 2.6x releases of Blender. I’ve figured out what my current issue is - if I save from Blender when it “edit mode” then Unity reports the import error, if I save from object mode, all is fine. I don’t know if its just my model/setup or a more general issue, but given the workaround is so simple, I’m not going to worry about it.

That’s interesting. Please report it to Unity Tech as a bug, if you haven’t already. It sounds like it would be easy for them to reproduce and fix, and would save other people heartache.

I reported the bug. They think it is up to Blender:

Thank you for the tip about needing to save in Object mode! You have saved me much anguish.

Thanks @SpaceMammoth! Saved my a lot of pain

Same here, thanks SpaceMammoth!

if you try and save while in edit mode it wont work. dunno why. solved it for me atleast.:smile:

Thank ! Solved by problem

I was stuck for hours until I read this thread. Thanks!

What? Why should blender cater to Unity? Did Unity pay them to be compatible or something? Why is the burden on the Blender developers for the Unity importer / exporter?

Looks like a really poor cop-out to me. They should at least change the Unity error message to read something like “.Blend file has object in edit mode. FBX can not be imported if objects are in edit mode.”

This is a limitation of the Unity importer IMHO. Not a Blender blunder.

Im still getting the message even while its in object mode. D:

Thanks for the tip. Changing to Object mode solved it for me as well!

I had the same problem for a couple of hours…
Unity and/or blender have serious problem working with non US characters on path names, which is a shame.
The name of my project has an " ñ " character on its name, hence the folder containing the project includes that " ñ "… Removing that " ñ " and replacing it with simple " n " solved the problem.

thanks you very much! My unity project 's path have chinese characters So It failed! when test on another ansi path it will ok!
By my test,The path of blender file doesn’t matter, but the unity project’s path matters!!
