Is Greenlight Success?

If I got a game on greenlight, I’d assume that it would go one to become a success and I’d expect to sell 10,000 copies. I don’t know if this has any basis in reality but its my assumption.

Just to clarify I mean, the game gets onto Steam. Now the game will obviously be of a good standard or it won’t make it onto Steam in the first place.

Thoughts?

Do you mean if you got the game onto Steam?
Your game won’t be a success if it get’s put on Greenlight.

But if it gets onto Steam, you may very well sell 10000 copies. Provided the game is well designed and polished.

However, exposure on Greenlight is pretty good. I have over 12000 views on my game.

Atom Zombie Smasher sales through December 2011
Steam: 96,000 units
BMT Micro (direct sales): 1,800
GamersGate: 155
Direct2Drive: 87
Impulse: 85
Ubuntu Store: 48
Desura*: 24

Well we dont know at what price probably most sold at 2.99 or whatever but its still alot. So I would say a good game on steam is going to sell a few 100k

No. Getting approved for Greenlight is only one step (and actually, not a very big one).

This is like saying, “My game was approved for the AppStore. I’ll be a millionaire now, right?”

But! Getting exposure on Greenlight is a good thing. Getting on Steam is even better (but still no guarantee).

But Steam isnt the AppStore…significant differences.
Also we arent talking millions just thousands.

Say it gets onto Steam…should do well no?

And Greenlight isn’t Steam.

But yes, you have a good shot at making money if you get your game on Steam. Again though, its not a guarantee. Just focus on making a great game

Yes. What standard, one may wonder? Well, it’s a bit down to Valve’s discretion, but broadly speaking it’s “of sufficiently good quality that it should sell at least 10,000 copies.”

^ this.
