Is it MANDATORY to become Apple developer?

If I want to deploy for iPhone, is it mandatory to become an Apple Developer?

Yes.

It is the only way you can actually test your games/apps via Remote, unfortunately.

What about this news?
Shouldn’t be now that Unity can deploy straight to iPhone?

You will still need to be a registered apple developer in order to publish to the AppStore as they will need all your information in order to get you paid

Sure, to get to the AppStore I have to register, but until that moment?

Nope, you’ll still need to become a developer since you need to get the app signed before it can get onto the device.

Ugh… ok thanks

Sorry :frowning:

$99/year shouldn’t break your budget, cause if it does you likely won’t be able to afford a mac and unity iphone addon either

Actually it is possible to create a project in xcode without signing it. Works in latest version of xcode aswell, but it is much easier just to be a developer.

its possible to create a project for the simulator but it won’t go onto the device as you can’t sign it.

also not accurate. you can get it into the phone, you can use the remote, you can also develop for and publish on cydia… all without becoming an apple developer. start to finish. all possible.

lol. first post in 2 years. ever. i felt compelled to factually answer this question. you dont need apple for the moment if youre pre 4.1

The Unity iPhone terms of service require you to be an Apple Developer.

Theres even a checkbox on the download page

The remote does not get anything on the device.

The remote renders the image created by the unity editor and sends back the input to the editor.
Nothing of your game is executed on the device at all!

The remote is to do a fast testing of input and gameplay functionality.
It will not give you any information on the end look but especially not about performance etc

so? whats with the remote explanation after quoting me? i was answering pyroman and anyway thats irrelevant.

you, dreamora, said “its possible to create a project for the simulator but it won’t go onto the device as you can’t sign it.” after efreet just explained to you that you can. get it? you can. the device goes brrrrttt… and pow! magic. it can be played without typical signing!

start to finish you can deploy an app to a store, just not the appstore.

however, as mitch hinted, the legality of it is questionable. and my rant is not a recommendation*

Well of course not, I’m going to buy an iPhone right these days, but it would have been nice to send back the Apple registration to after I was able to deploy something but if it’s not possible I’ll register soon.
Also, I haven’t got a ready website and company name so I have to register a personal account… but we are 3 in team…

Uh this would be good already… does the simulator simulate also the iPhone computational power or not?

nope

and it requires that you own Unity iPhone 3, iphone 1.x can’t go onto the simulator
