We have Maya 7 with FBX plugin version 2005.10.
Is this sufficient for Unity development? Are there features missing in this plugin version that are important?

Just bumping this thread ![]()
I would definitely upgrade your package, but to be honest I am not sure if it is sufficient.
Test it out and see if you can import assets without problems bring in animations and rigged characters and also bring in static meshes. If you can’t do that and the problem is on maya’s end then it isn’t.
I don’t think it will work.
There were 2 or so upgrades to the command line interface required if you want to use ma / mb files directly and FBX 2005 isn’t doing any good either, its FBX6 or 2011.x if you want to go through stress free.
Would definitely agree with Naison, its favorable to be on the current version as thats the one thats really supported, the old stuff or can not work
OK been so long since I read the importing docs I didn’t realise Unity officially supports Maya 8 only. So I guess apart from testing it yourself then I would either update your version of Maya or convert you assets to FBX, as I’m pretty sure Unity’s FBX parser should be able to open older FBX versions.
Just to add.
Assets pipelines are very subjective things. Asking questions on forums will only get you so far. Now that UT has a free version of Unity there is really no excuse not to test your own pipeline in-house. Then come here if you have any show stopper issues.
Cheers.
thats what I would recommend to do too. Nothing gives you a more accurate set of informations than just doing it.
and it is normally 10 times faster too ![]()
Info for anyone else who is using Maya 7.
You can download the newest fbx plugin here. Note that version 2006.11.1 is the highest version that is available for Maya 7.
