Their new version is saying , they export everywhere-
web
windows
linux
mac
wii
mobile- ios,android,blackberry,symbian,windows,bada
1 Price for everything. Export everything from 1 system, no need to switch from windows to mac to linux. If all this is true, then is Unity3D is in some serious competition ??
Overpowering? I don’t think so. You should try it out.
But judging by release history :
ShiVa 1.5 was released July 4, 2007
ShiVa 1.6 was released July 1, 2008
ShiVa 1.7 was released March 10, 2009
ShiVa 1.8 was released November 16, 2009
ShiVa 1.9 was released November 2, 2010
Wow, so it is still stucked at v1.9x. They were on v1.9 since almost 2 years ago (November 2010). The latest version says v1.9.1 on their website.
Judging by their feature list, they are at least couple of years behind Unity - their latest beta v2.0 looks similar to what Unity 3.0 was offering 2 years ago.
I heard their documentation is atrocious too. It looks like they are trying to copy/emulate Unity closely but just can’t quite compete with Unity. I am guessing its a manpower issue. I am betting they only have 1/10 of the manpower compare to UT. Looking at their slow update history and lack of documentation and forum support I think they are run by a far smaller team than UT.
Valid Targets With ShiVa, But Not Unity (without Union):
Blackberry
Symbian
WebOS
Windows Phone
Brew
Marmalade
Valid Targets With Unity (without Union), But Not ShiVa:
Flash
PlayStation 3*
Xbox 360*
Wii U**
*Only if you’re an approved developer. Good luck with that.
**Maybe. We don’t actually have much information about it.
ShiVa certainly has more target platforms, but none of those platforms it has that Unity doesn’t look particularly promising. Not to mention that the languages one can use for coding in the two programs don’t overlap at all.
Its not the platforms, or the price, its the actual usability of the product .
Torque is now free, and opensource i’m still never going to use it since Unity is much easier to use .
Like UDK can be called a “better” engine since it can push GFX further then unity , but since its far harder for most people to use non of that matters .
Hahahaha nopes, i love unity3D and i am a unity user. My client from Paris demanded to use Shiva3D so i thought to take an advise to dive or not to dive, coz it will be a whole new world without much examples.
I posted it to show to the user’s what they are upto, i can delete it if u want but this is not against anything i hope. I am a true lover of unity. I believe i stretch unity more than any1 to its limits.
You can port to everything using unity “Union” if you are game is “good enough” but if not there is probably no reason to port to those platforms anyway. If your game doesnt sell on the IOS market its almost no point to port it to the other ones - droid is 1/10th the size and the other platforms are probably no better, but if the game is good enough unity will handle porting for you (which seems better to me).
So you concentrate on making a good game, if its a good game it will sell on the other platforms if its not its a waste of time (at least for mobile devices).
