Is the GI cache as usefull as it could be?

I’m in the process of lightbaking a scene. The issues I have are that very minor changes to static geometry in the scene requires another re-bake, which seems to take much much longer than it should when using the GI cache for such minor changes.
I have my scene fully baked. After the bake, if I try to re-bake, it takes 15 seconds, which is expected because the GI cache is up to date. Now, I select a game object and change its scale in the lightmap from 1 to zero. Why then does another 4-hour bake need to occur? All I’m doing is eliminating the item from the atlas. It’s almost as if because of that one little change, the majority of the GI cache is useless after stage 6. I just think something is not as optimized as it could be with the GI cache. Such minor changes shouldn’t have that drastic of an impact of the GI bake process.

This is expected because you changed static geometry. While we cache what we can, the rest of the pipeline depends on the geometry input. We would like to change to a voxel based geometry representation, that could make it possible to only recomputed what is needed. No ETA on this though.
