Is the Indie version of Unity still free?

I’ve just tried upgrading from 2.6, when Indie was free to use, and upon trying to load it up, it said I needed to activate, and something about a free trial.

So, is their still a completely free version, or will anything newer require me to buy Unity pro eventually?

Yupp there is a free version of Unity 3.

Then the downloader I have must be the pro downloader, and is offering the free trial. I’ll check to see if the free version in the store is different from the version I downloaded.

There are no separate versions; there is only one Unity app. You have to register whether you’re using a Pro license or not.

Also, unless I’m sorely mistaken(it happens ;P) when you download the indie version they give you a 30 trial of Pro, because I got the 30 day free trial notification as well. And like Eric said, you gotta register, Pro or no.

you can use the 30 day trial at any point though, you aren’t forced to do it on the initial registration

How do I do that?

I held off on activating my pro trial because I wanted to learn how to use the tool first. Now I want to check out the pro tools because I am ready for them, and i don’t know how to activate it. I re-installed Unity 3.1 but didn’t get any prompts for a pro trial.

Help me, Dreamora. You’re my only hope.

Just reregister your copy (the unity menu allows you to change the license key) and do it as pro this time.
