I’m new to unity, and the project that I’ll be using this for is probably far off down the line, however I’m curious so I thought I’d ask.
So, I have limited musical ability, I can play some chords on guitar and I can sing, but thats it. I was wondering if its at all possible to take some sheet music for a song in the public domain (medieval music) and convert it into, say, a simulated piano track?
There is a program called Finale that works similar to a typical DAW but works as sheet music. I believe you will have to put the notes on the staff yourself though, unless it got a “scan in” feature that I don’t know about.
You could use a regular DAW as well, which would get you tons of power, and ability to change instruments, etc… Of course, you would have to learn the software. You would also have to put the music into the software yourself, so you would also have to understand the music, etc…
Most sheet music online is also available in midi format. Once you have the midi you can import it in almost any DAW software, and let it play with virtual instruments.
The low quality of midi playback is due to the instruments used by the player, if you use a good virtual instrument you can get a pretty natural sound.
