Is there a target date for Unity 3 release?

From all I hear about Unity 3 I’m beginning to feel like Cartman waiting for the Wii to come out but I have no idea if it’s 10 weeks or 10 mos. away. Any ideas or rumors? I just need to know how long I need to freeze myself.

The target is “summer”.

To be safe you better not got unfrozen until the 22nd of September.

‘Summer’ may mask a multitude of sins.

From looking at the Beta release update notes they do appear to be getting through ‘things’ very quickly, although, we don’t know just how many ‘things’ they need to get through before they feel it’s ‘good to go officially’.

I may be very wrong here (so don’t flame me!), but as Unite2010 is 10-12 Nov, I guess that is the very latest (but that is not really summer is it)

UT will make its release when it’s ready, we can’t really say more than that.

Science H. Logic. I’ll just make do w/ 2.6 then.

for some reason, I find this funny.

They should make beta testing free… Just select a few handful of people and let them tinker.

That part has always existed according to postings on the board, but the closed and private beta is just that, closed and private.
so there is no information on anything in relation to it unless you are part of it.

The preorder early access is actually a good thing in this special case of a totally new major version, because it means that it is broader tested, by different skill levels of users and different points of views. That leads to a far higher chance to detect bugs than you would have if only “skilled programmers” worked with it for example.

That is, in fact, exactly what they do.

hmm?

I thought they only released to few of the people who BOUGHT it. I’m talking about just any user subscribed to the forums or newsletter.

they who bought it got access to prerelease versions, right.
But the closed beta program which is free and has people handpicked by UT is not touched by that. That group exists and tests independent of the preorder access

<.<

.>

I did not know that. Who are these beta testers?

I know a few people who have it, but I’m pretty sure they bought it.

A handpicked group of people.
But the definition of closed and private is that nobody aside of the testers and UTs knows such things.

Thats very well possible but actually shouldn’t make any difference should it.
U3 beta is u3 beta

Well, UT selects some forum members, usually about 10 or so, and throws them into a deep pit. The forum members engage in combat to the death, and the last…no, wait, I’ve heard this before. Let me start again:

They are who you’d least expect. They are all around you, silent and watching. One of them might even be YOU! Your innocent act doesn’t fool me for a second.

Sounds a lot like someone enjoyed a few long nights of battlestar galactica

Wow.

noob question: What does UT stand for? Unity team? Unity testers? I keep on reading it like Unreal Tournament.

UT = Unity Technologies

ahh. Thanks…

Can’t wait for Unity 3!

Think of some really high profile Unity success stories. There’s a really good chance they have early access. They’ve proven that they know what they’re doing and can really put new features through their paces. Their feedback is generally going to be more valuable than a random selection of forum users.
