Is there a way to generate outlines on the edges of a shape/object?

I have some objects in my map where I’d like to generate an outline on the edges to make them more visible. Is there a way to do that?

I would prefer achieving this without creating a custom material with lines, as it would be a pain to modify the size of lines, colors, etc. If I could just generate it via a script or something it would be much more dynamic and practical.

Would look something like this, when you select an object in the viewport. But slightly bigger outlines.

This kind of thing is pretty much done with shaders/materials, usually ‘toon’ shaders that have an outline option.

There are free and paid options on the asset store.
