Is there an equivalent to Voxel Plugin Pro (unreal)

Is there an equivalent of Unreal’s Voxel Plugin Pro?

“Voxel Plugin brings state-of-the-art voxel technology to Unreal. Unleash the full power of voxels and create fully volumetric, infinite landscapes. Edit them in editor and at runtime, single or multiplayer. Use tools like mesh stamping, surface sculpting or go fully procedural using the voxel graphs. Easily add foliage on top of your terrain using the built-in procedural foliage system. Enjoy working in a plugin designed for Unreal Engine, with well integrated features. Get helped by a large community of creators and an extensive documentation!”

I’ve checked but I’m not quite seeing something similar.

There’s abandoned “Ultimate Voxel Terrain”, but that’s pretty much it.

i guess this is the best that i’ve seen around:
[TerrainEngine] Voxel Terrain : Smooth,Cubic,2D,Hexagonal Infinite Procedural Terrain page-22#post-7201756

*purchasing it seems difficult based on the thread,
and even i purchased one version when there was a 3rd party “distributor”, but that repo went cold soon after that…

Well here goes me hoping that something exists and it doens’t cost 300 bucks to buy.

Oh well.

We’ve had a few solutions pop up over the years but none of them lasted very long. Eventually I stopped paying attention to whether any new ones were coming out.

Is this a common story for unity assets? I recall there was Gaia and it was popular. Although I think it didn’t support destructible terrain.

Gaia still exists, but there are currently different versions floating around. All made by the same developer, however.

The most recent and supported one is Gaia 2021:

(Afaik there was Gaia first, which later became Gaia 2 eventually. It also had a Pro version. They got then superseded by Gaia 2021 and Gaia Pro 2021 respectively.)

Edit: Also, the devs eventually opted for that typical “new year, new major release for which you can upgrade for a fee” upgrade path.
.

Thats mostly what puts me off, it costs the same as most assets that are supported for years, but they charge every year again. I really dont like that, if I am paying that much for an asset I expect at least 24 months of support instead of everything getting put into a new paid version.

Like its nearly £300 for the pro version, and I am expected to pay again in 12 months time for an asset? I think they should just branch off and make their own software, I would be more willing to pay that much yearly if that was the case but not for an asset store asset…

Oh, it is ALSO $300.

The reason why I asked is because unreal asset store, I mean marketplace tends to be noticeably more expensive than unity, hence it wouldn’t be surprising to find a cheaper unity equivalent of a $300 unreal asset.

To be fair I use the free version of the voxel plugin for unreal and I have not found a need for the pro version yet, so there is that

But yeah for the equivalent in unity you will need GAIA pro, unlike the unreal asset there is no free version of it, the trimmed down version is still like £50 instead of free and you pay yearly.

Check out Voxeland although I do not have first hand experience with it so I can’t vouch for it. But the developer is the same Denys Pahunov, who made Map Magic and Map Magic 2. Excellent multi-thread support and generators for terrain (and node-based editor if you like those things), I imagine he has put similar tech in his voxel-asset too. Not to mention compatible with Vegetation Studio Pro, which is a very advanced vegetation placement / management tool (I have some experience with it, it’s great IMHO).

Is Gaia voxel-based though? Last I was aware it was just a traditional terrain system.

Same. I loved the concept when it came out but it’s simply too expensive for most people which is why I switched to learning and recommending Map Magic 2 which is completely free for the base package. Paid packages add biomes ($45), splines ($22.50), and object placement ($45) for one-time costs.

I think the reason is that there’s no “seat” licenses at the Unreal marketplace: if you purchase an asset there, everyone in the same company can use it, while most editor extension assets in the Unity marketplace must be licensed for each team member.
