I’m tired of using Google sketchup pro 8 cause that can’t make anything good,is there any other free 3d model making programs out there if so could i get the link?
mail me at isightproductions@gmail.com.
why mail you??
Well I can tell you where to get modelling tool
lol or you can put link on here
Define free…
oh forget it i’ll find free programs myself.
Sure; but will they be any good…suit yourself.
I am against piracy but with 3D modelling it is a good idea to try them out first.
You don’t need to pirate them in order to try them out; they all have free demos. In any case, none of them will magically make great models for you with no effort, you have to put the time in to learn. So you might as well use Blender, because there’s nothing else free which is even close.

TrueSpace is the only other full featured 3d app for free that I know of. It has been abandoned for a while now, but it still has some decent tools if you can get it to work. I think there are issues with running it on Vista or Windows 7. Blender has better tools, but I always found trueSpace to be more intuitive to work with.

There are also a lot of video tutorials for it still available:

If you can afford it though, Silo is a very affordable and effective modeling app ($130). That’s what I often use these days.
You aren’t going to find a free app that is better than blender.
if your on a mac i looooove cheetah 3d. other people hate it, i dont see whats so bad about it. but its $100 or so
You can’t do better than Wings3d for free modeling. It’s a copy of the modeling part of nendo/mirai. Otherwise for very cheap get Silo.
Nendo is also still available. At least the demo. http://www.izware.com/nendo/
What are your problems with SketchUp? It’s by far the easiest 3d software to learn. Is it lack of functionality?
You know there are LOTS of great ruby scripts (plugins) for SU that enhances it a lot. Like SDS tools (sub division modelling) that will soon come out with new much enhanced version.
Bezier curve tools, Tools on surface and even Lightmap baking with LightUp and much more. If you havent, take a look at the www.sketchucation.com forums. There is a section for plugins with a plugin index.
Here are a couple of images modelled in SketchUp:

Agree to that, on mac for low budget and/or “not that artist savy” (like me as programmer) cheetah 3d is great
Also its directly supported in Unity, another plus
On windows I tend to use Silo 3d in its current version + Fragmotion for Animation + Ultimate Unwrap 3D for UV unwrap and conversion
When we talk about the tS 7.61 B8 Full: Workspace runs fine here at my Win 7 64 Bit. Only issue that i had was with the LE. A refresh problem. But theres a patch available for that. Whats making problems is the Modeler side. That`s a bit annoying sometimes. Moving the space a bit fixes it then.
Here`s just the Standalone left. I cannot recommend to use just this version. They have removed the version with the Modeler. Most likely because of licensing problems. Modeler brings lots of functionality that you cannot find at the Workspace side. Like Bevel. Or OBJ Im and Export. Plus you can use a ton of still available tS 6.6 plugins here. Like Polytools.
At Cnet you can still find an older version with the Modeler, called tS 7.6. On the other hand, here the Workspace has lots of bugs and quirks that were fixed in 7.61 B8. And the file transfer between this versions is also problematic. But that`s better than no Modeler at all.
Im also sure that there are other ways to get 7.61 B8. Its just forbidden to mirror it, not to give it away.
Beware. tS is buggy. And you need to get used to its UI. I still love and use trueSpace because of its easiness though. It simply still does lots of job better and faster for me than Blender. Like modeling, texturing and rendering. And thats not because i havent tried Blender yet. Blender is already in my tool chain where it makes sense to me. But the days of trueSpace are over. Development is stopped. You have to live with what you get. And there`s more than one gap. So to learn it from scratch may be wasted time. I am in a different situation here, i have grown with it, know most of its quirks and the needed workarounds, and am fine with what i have. At least as long as there is no N-gon support in Blender ![]()
I always wonder why this dinosaur is still getting mentioned. Its a bit outdated nowadays, isnt it? Silo is a good tip for modeling though, and well worth the bucks ![]()
Wonder why nobody has mentioned DAZ3ds Carrara here. Also a nice tool from what i hear. You can still get Version 7 Pro bundled with a 3D magazine for a few bucks. Same counts for Hexagon. That ones just a pure modeling app though.
Another alternative could still be the Softimage XSI Modtool. Also free. But a bit aged now.
Define better. The old version 2.49 is a pain to work with, UI wise. Blender 2.5 still lacks of lots of things. Like a manual for example. It is still in development. The UI is much better now in 2.5x, but still needs some work imho. Blender also still lacks of N-Gons. Modeling in Blender is a special pain therefore. This may change when Bmesh is implemented. It brings N-Gon support. And when there is finally the new manual, then your statement may fit ![]()
wow, those are some nice scenes. looks like sketch-up is playing catch-up with the rest of em.
