Is there any reason to having the asset store download folder in AppData?

I’m trying to understand the point of this. Maybe it was a good decision at the time for whatever reason but having it there sort of hides it from the less technically OS minded. It also, as assets can come in huge MB sizes, means those who lack the space might find it a struggle understanding where disk space is being eaten.

Another issue. Main Hard Drive failure. If the main drive fails and it took you many days to download your account assets it means you have to go through the whole process again.

What about backup purposes? If there was an option during installation of Unity that asks you to pick the location you want the store downloads folder to reside in it would be much easier to backup this folder but also for main drives that have a small GB limit, some solid state drives etc., it would be a space saver.

Basically may I request that there be an option to customize the location of the asset store downloads folder?

I don’t see what the problem would be and think it will only be a good thing.

Ta!

It would indeed be very practical to have it how you proposed.

But until that day arrives using a symlink or similar to forward that folder to some other place works pretty well.
