Is there any way to create a character controller?

As in, when someone changes their appearance through my in-game shop system, and equip it, it will change their avatar. Then, through some sort of script, send a PNG image of their new avatar to a PHP page so it can be used on their website profile?

I need it to load their new avatar through MYSQL, or I can have a PHP page send it to the game server.
(This is not important yet)

In short:
I’m just wondering if it’s possible to render an image of an in-game block on an html website?

Yes. You can render to a texture and then use EncodeToPNG.

You can probably get from the bytestream to or PNG to other formats if you spelunk the Mono documentation, but PNG should be sufficient (you can use something serverside to compress the PNG to JPG or whatever should the need arise).

It has nothing to do with textures which I need.
Im just wondering if there’s any way of taking let’s say a screenshot of the users avatar and then turning it into a viewable png file.

That’s… exactly what podperson told you.

Yeah, I realize that now, sorry… I misread the post.
/end idiocy.

Problem is, I need it so that the background is transparent. Won’t this pickup the color in the background too?

Okay, I got what you meant but it does not work effectively.

Should I use some other algorithm which just retrieves the itemID’s from the database and similar to PHP GD, just layer the clothing, or edit their character?

Seems a bit of a dull idea.

You can set up a camera that only renders a single layer, and then put the character in that layer (if only temporarily). I’m not quite sure of the details regarding rendering to texture with a transparent background, but you might try setting the ‘clear’ mode for the camera to ‘solid color’, and setting the alpha for the clear color to zero.
