I found threads from a year ago saying that a universal Android texture compression format was coming, I’m wondering if it’s arrived yet. Our game is still like 5MB too large to post to the Google Play store, and would be very easy to fit if we could compress some of our gigantic textures (we have one 16MB texture, a number of 8MB textures, and a whole bunch of 4MB textures). And of course it’d be nice to load smaller textures into VRAM. And we can’t use ETC1 due to its complete lack of Alpha (our game uses 2D sprites, not using the new Unity 2D system).
ETC2 is the “universal” texture compression.
opengl es 3.0
well there’s other options. if you can convert atlases to the new 2D system you save space - it packs tighter. Or 2D toolkit 2.3’s png. 16 bit is also a saving.
