I really hope that this question is not meant for real.
Because its obvious that it is not. A $3000 software is and never will be offered at such prices.
Also its pretty simple to check: go to the official site and check the resellers.
OEM software is only legally sold to equipment manufacturers.
sad face
yea its bogus Im afraid. I reported a similar one to adobe, well I just asked them about it and its totally illegal, but the site was still up months later, so they obviously have some trouble shutting these sites down.
It sucks because well meaning people could part with cash buying essentially pirate software.
Good on ya for asking tho, you dont get answers with out questions first.
AC
Those sites are normally hosted in Russia or China
There is no way for them to shut the site sadly.
But its commonly pretty simple to see whats scam: if something is offered at less than 50% of its regular online store price, its scam for sure. If something that costs $3000 is offered at less than $1000, its definitely illegal.
Especially as it is not allowed to resell any autodesk license unless you sell the physical media. Digital licenses are non transferable, for Adobe as for Autodesk
Unless it’s an educational license. If you’re in school, you can get Maya for $200 USD.
first example I found: http://journeyed.com/itemDetail.asp?ItmNo=80046473
Im in school, but in Australia… I will check that link out
aaaaaaw… I don’t have an Intel mac… sad face.
I bought Maya 8 from a vendor in Sydney for around $3.5k.
Blender is a complete professional free 3d modeler/renderer/compositor, however its interface will take a LOT to get used to then other programs of a similar nature.
Its also available for PPC macs.

I’ve been using blender for a year now and it’s great, but in maya (I have the PLE) I can do things much faster and there are better modeling and animation tools.
I totally agree with you on that mate
I had no idea you were already using Blender already however it didn’t hurt to mention it.
A list of other alternatives can be found here but as you know most are not supported or documented.

Perhaps Cheetah is the cheap alternative for you. I have not used it so i can’t say.
Maya 7 might be an alternative as well but it will be pricey still and could be cheaper with a transfer license from a company that has gone bust.
well I guess I’ll have to wait, since I’m a student money is tight but I’m thinking of putting together a portfolio and seeing if I can get some paid work, which in turn will hopeful lead to me getting maya.
I also really want to get maya and build upon my skills with since it’s pretty much an industry standard and when I leave school I want to vow to have a job that I love so I’m trying to “cram” as much learning as possible.
I’m assuming your in highschool that should be enough to qualify you to get edu autodesk products.
I’ll see if I can find something
I am OVER THE F**ING MOON! My folks knew a guy that had maya 2008 unlimited. He didn’t know I was in to it and because he was switching to another program he gave me it for free.
So over the moon right now…
Your parents know a crazy saint with too much $$$$. Nice!
thanks man!
The unlimited version was well over $20k. !!!a year or two ago.
Here is the american pricing from the site
Did it come with a dongle? most of them do to prevent it being used on another computer and it’s usually bound to the Mac address.
You will need to talk to Autodesk about having the license transferred for it to be legit, you cant just sell it or hand it over. That may cause a headache later down the track if you go commercial.
Would you mind taking a photo of the box and posting it so i can compare it to mine.
I managed to get 3 extra DVDS with mine.
He’s installing it on my computer and taking care of the license issues since I’m a youngen soon, I think I may have gotten mixed up in what the name was though but it is definitely a maya 2008.
I’m not going commercial, so I don’t think that’s going to be an issue, when/if I do I will buy the latest maya (probably by then I’ll have some money )
