Hello, and please forgive me if I posted this in the wrong place or if there was a better place to post this.
I am the project leader of a game myself and a few other people are wanting to make. The game is a fighting game, but very much akin to Super Smash Bros. Melee or Super Smash Bros. Project M in terms of speed and gameplay. I would like to know if Unity 3D is the appropriate engine for making a game with this kind of speed. We want it to be 3D Model-based so modding an engine like M.U.G.E.N. is out of the question for us, at least for right now.
For those who may not know, here are some examples of the kind of speed and gameplay we wish to create.
Thank you very much for your answers, they are very much appreciated.
You want the speed of super smash brothers with the graphics of Street Fighter 4 and the character roster the size of King of Fighters and you want the network capabilities so that you can have 4 vs 4 matches and you want all the top of the line controller input devices complete with rumble packs and you want to be able to output to HDMI and mobile.
You just want to make sure unity is worthy of your incredible abilities before you even bother wasting your time.
Your time, which is obviously too valuable to spend researching this question yourself. That’s what the lesser people are for.
You’re the idea man the world has been waiting for.
All that necessary now is for you to post I’m making a game in the collaboration forum and once people see your design document that you made in Microsoft Word… they’ll sign up for no pay and work 18 months to complete this vision. Then you’ll be a rich and powerful game designer and you’ll never have to work again.
And it all started with this one topic, a few YouTube videos and your friends from high school.
@RJ-MacReady , just a quick question since you seem knowledgeable about this stuff.
I’m working on my first game. It’s an MMO, kinda like world of warchraft, but bigger, and it’s gonna have 17 classes and 42 races, and I’m adding in elements of flappy bird and a trading card game.
Do you think Unity will be OK for that too? Or should I get UE4 or Cryengine instead. I don’t want to waste my time if Unity can’t handle it.
An mmo fps trading card game? With flabby birds???
Do not discuss this idea any further in public. PM me now, no… that might be watched. Meet me in Daigon Alley at 9:30pm, I’ll be wearing the blue dress holding roses NOT tulips. That’s the decoy. We have to take this idea straight to the top!!!
@R.Lindsay :
This is the best mmo idea so far, with so much races, i think we will have a fair amount of choice now; also, you say bigger than World of worldcraft, great, i never thaugth you was so productive.
Now I’m starting to think that maybe we’re not thinking big enough at all.
But the real question is not if I’m even able to do what I’m thinking, or if its even a good idea, or if its even the market sound idea or if its just flagrant rip off another game. No, the only thing that I need to know the only thing holding me back is can Unity handle it?
yeah I’ve been giving it some thought (since I’m the main ideas man). I wont be able to do the work all myself, but when I present it to studios they will definitely make it.
I cant tell you everything here because you might steal my idea.
It’s going to be hard, like vanilla wow, not the noob friendly MMO’s you get today. Think of a medieval fantasy version of EVE mixed with an endless runner/RTS hybrid. But way better.
But like I said, the main problem at the moment is
