Just run into an interesting issue. If people are getting random “Failed to reach Unity license server” errors when trying to activate a licence, have a look at the actual log in AppData/Roaming/UnityHub/Logs, because it would appear that this misleading error is displayed for other stuff too, in our case, for failing to write to the licence file because of a permissions error.
The usual fix for this kind of problem is deleting “Unity_lic.ulf” in “C:\ProgramData\Unity” so that Unity recreates it.
Yep, that’s what I did. It’s just the error message is outright wrong.
As long as only the message is wrong…
