Issue with Chinese simplified (zh-CN) glyph 径

Hello everyone,
I’ve localised my game in Chinese Simplified (zh-CN) and one glyph should be “径” but when I copy-paste it in my TMP text field the glyphs appears to be changed with 2 additional strokes.
Initially I thought it was an issue related to the used font, but even when testing multiple of them nothing changed.
Then I’ve noticed in the inspector that the text field itself seemed to have the wrong glyph, as if unity wouldn’t support such glyph and thus automatically make the change? (note that the same happens with legacy Text component, so it is not a TMP-specific issue)

Steps to repro:

  • add a Text component to a gameobject (both Legacy and TMP components have the issue)
  • set its text to “径”
  • notice how the glyph appears modified both in the inspector and in the scene

Here is a screenshot highlighting the “additional strokes”

Just found another glyph with the same issue: “将”.
The value in the inspector as well as the end-result in the scene have a different look in their top-right corner:

Just found another glyph with the same issue: “拔”
In Unity the glyph is missing an horizontal stroke

Here is yet another glyph with the same issue: “卷”

What you are getting here are the Japanese variant of the Chinese characters. Unity itself does not support fonts that have multiple variants of the same character, where a hint is needed to select the correct glyph for the correct context. You’ll need fonts files that is only have glyphs applicable to Simplified Chinese, like Noto Sans Simplified Chinese.
