It is possible to connect a tablet to test?

Hi all…

Can i connect my android tablet or game console with Unity to test my games without having to building them?..
i mean, i click play on editor and directly use my tablet to debug.

I have set the Debugging option on Development optión on my tablet, but i don´t know what to do now…
any ideas?

Thanks

Yes there is an app Built for this named Unity Remote.

Just make sure your tablet was connected to your pc before you open unity and then you can open the remote app. When you click play in the editor you can use the tablet screen as controls.

Thank you, i have downloaded it… but looks like unity does not recognizes my device…
there is a screen waiting with a message : “Connect this device with USB cable to your computer and play the game in editor”

nothing happens when i click play on editor…

I´m using mac, i have read that i don´t need google usb drivers.

i have turned on “Debugging mode” on my device’s system preferences.

may be my device is not compatible?
i´m using a Chinese game-console named “JXD S5110”

what could it be?

Thank you for your answer

did you connect your tablet to your pc before opening Unity like I mentioned?

My tablet is a cheap chinese tablet and it works ,although I must mention the graphics it sends to my tablets screen is super low res and stretched even all messed up at times.

But I manage to debug atleast without compiling and installing , I look at it in the Unity editor and just use the tablet for the touch controls.

Hola

Did you try any of the guides first?

thanks for answering gracias… gracias Poderoso Robot…

Shaderbyte, yes, i have tried it running the software before unity starts, and nothing happens…
but now that mention it, if you are using a chinese tablet, mine should work too…,

MightyRobot, i have followed the guides with no luck, but there is something that i have not done yet:

write this on the console:

adb kill-server
adb start-server
adb devices

i will try that… btw… the specification of my game player is this:

Amlogic M3(ARM Cortex A9 CPU, ARM Mali400 3D graphics acceleration hardware GPU), 512MB DDR3

is not so fast, but it should work at least! :)=
indeed, i only want it to test touches…

However, could you Shaderbyte tell me what is the brand of your tablet_? if you say that it works I could try to buy one of them…

My tablet is a hyundai a7 basically similar specs to yours

single core processor mali 400 gpu 512mb ddr3

That been said I flashed my device as soon as I got it and installed a custom rom (Elvish ROM 0.3)

It was $100 about two years ago - I think single core tablets with these specs go for about $60 these days

I dont know if they even sell this model any longer as it had many other versions released afterwards

If you dont get it working Im sure you could find something better then my hyundai though

Joder el capo  !
Hmm cant you just deploy to test? Normally you only need it on the device to test input and performance anyway

For cheap test device i can recommend MK803. Its mid-range and requires a monitor or TV, but it is very cheap!

i´m going to pick up from Ebay or Amazon… thanks both!..

gracias tio! ojojo

i did it!!.. now it works!!

what i did is to download latest android sdk,

the only problem now is it is running slow (approximately 10 fps), what could it be?..

Thanks!

well done glad you got it working with your current device

What is running slow the Unity editor or the device? As mentioned earlier the graphics the app sends to my device is very low res and super choppy and distorted but the Unity editor runs fine and the touch events work.

Well yes this happens to me always when debugging this way over unity remote, I seem to have better results if I match my editor’s game window to be a similar aspect ratio of my device, and end all running apps on the device as well (holding home key, swiping em away) - but that second part might be all in my head haha. Probably is good to try not to overload the computer your working from (close photoshop or any other unnecessary applications on the machine) to improve speed between the devices.

Unity remote just really isn’t meant to perform really well, its mostly just to debug and test simple things without building out to the device.

Thanks both for answering…

Unity is running smooth, … android device is the slow thing…
but you know what?.. it make its work at least… that is what i was looking for… i´m happy…

what i´m doing is to look at unity while i touch the device… haha

yep that’s what i do as well, just use the devices input really, with visuals in editor. best of luck developing!

Thanks all…

good luck to all you too … God Bless
