It Takes 10 - 20 minutes to import into my project

i’m new to Unity but, there must be something not right here - i can’t get anything actually DONE because i have to go away and find something else to do for EVERY ITEM i import

there are no error or ‘not responding’ messages, it just loads really slow - i can see the progress bar

Does sound wrong, yeah. Where are you importing these assets from, something crazy like dropbox, or did you drag and drop the asset into project window?

Also things to consider are where the files are located, and if you have some bizarre hyperactive antivirus running. Typically, importing a 1024x1024 texture should take a second on any hardware. How long does that take?

What are your computer specs? Nothing can be done with such little information.

i drag and drop everything - unless, it’s coming straight from the store and i have Unity and all my assets on a fast harddrive

no antivirus

HP - Win 8 - 64
8G RAM
AMD E!-2500 processor
AMD Radeon HD 8249 video

it does this with every file, on any project - whether they come straight from the store or my fast harddrive - so, it’s not a matter of a corrupted file or anything

If windows Defender isn’t running then I strongly suggest you start it running. Also, update the definitions and do a full scan :stuck_out_tongue:

Although to be honest, that’s one of the slowest (mobile) cpus money can buy, so I don’t expect much from it.

i don’t count that as anti-virus because it doesn’t mess with your programs like the others do - yes, it’s ON

but, what does that have to do with this issue here? i don’t like antivirus programs, MOST are just bigger viruses and i can purge them by hand anyway

i do not have a virus at this time - that is not the problem

You don’t know you don’t have one if you’re not running antivirus. Also you cannot purge them by hand. Windows Defender is built into windows and isn’t a virus itself.

I’ll stop replying now since clearly you really do not know what you are doing.

you do not know my background - i ‘clearly’ do not know what i’m doing in UNITY - beyond that, i’m hardly a computer newbie and i’ve worked for companies like FOX, NBC, Disney and others, from level-design, to tech support, to building workstations, to setting up entire departments, to upper-management/director level, etc.

so, let’s not be arrogant, okay? it’s okay if YOU do not have answers to my problem, no need to get haughty to cover for it - you say i don’t know what i’m doing when it’s obvious that YOU don’t know what i’m doing

withdrawing from this thread IS a good idea - why not do it respectfully?

hopefully, someone that DOES KNOW can be of help

is it arrogant for me to say i do not have a virus or is it arrogant for YOU to say i do - when i’m the one looking at it and YOU are not? perhaps your area of expertise is not in viruses but, in Unity? hmm?

or, maybe you just need a hug (and, a joint)…
