iTrials released - iPhone motocross game

Hi everyone, just wanted to showcase our first iPhone game: iTrials - a 3D physics motocross game with ramps, loops, mashers and all sorts of awkward obstacles.

It’s been an amazing journey for us developing it, and really couldn’t have done it without Unity.
We were quite limited by the iPhone hardware, especially making it playable on the 3G, but after many a tweak (I dare not count the hours spent optimising!), we are proud to announce its release.

It would be great if you checked it out and we would love to hear your feedback!

You can check out the video on the iTrials website, or on YouTube.

Just a quick reply with some feedback.

1)Great controls.

2)Framerate is good on my 1st gen ipod, occasional slow downs but that is to expected with 1st gen.

3)Would be nice to have a flip screen option. Currently you have it set (landscape left?) so on a ipod the headphone jack is at the bottom left which is awkward for getting to the lean controls.

  1. When i “wipeout” the 3-2-1 countdown is displayed but the timer is still going, then a brief pause and we resume from the last checkpoint. I’m assuming that we should teleport back to checkpoint then countdown? Or is this intentional time penalty?

  2. Would be nice to see previous best time when playing. This is more for when i come back to a level.

  3. You may want to add some type of 3 star system for achieving times to encourage replaying of levels (seems to work for angry birds/cut the rope)

  4. If you fail a lot like me a 3-2-1 countdown gets annoying, trails hd uses a READY-GO for retries.

I’m having fun playing and will update you if i can think of anything.

Looks awsome

Hi,

Many thanks for your response, - really valuable advice in there! thanks.

It should auto detect orientation when you rotate 180, but maybe this is not immediately obvious as it starts off in landscape left (or right, forgot which way round). We’ll look at making this more obvious and put it in the update.

We kept the countdown after wipeout to catch any comedy ragdoll bashing  and yes, as an intentional time penalty You can hit last waypoint at anytime though, even during countdown to go back to the last waypoint.

Another good point. Yes, it would be good to see it so you don’t have to wait for the end screen, or if you know you’ve not made it, restart without finishing.

Good idea. I like it. It’ll be a good indicator of progress.

Yeah, we toyed around with this a bit, but “ready, go” is a good solution

Thanks again and we’ll definitely address these points in the first update.

Dave and Phil

I definitively like this game!!!
When will be ready !!? Sorry dude, but I’m gonna replace Unreal Trial as soon as this is out!

Great job! How does it performs on older devices?

Hi Litobyte
This game is already out and in the app store. An update has also just been finished which adds tilt option as well as on screen controls. The update should be available within the next week or so.

3GS above is recommended, however it runs fine on 1st gen devices, just a bit choppy in places which is to be expected on older hardware

Ok, thanks.

I will check it with an iPod 4G then :stuck_out_tongue:
Is retina display “aware” ?

Great game guys!!! I’ve been playing it a lot!
I am a recent Unity developer myself
and i was wondering if it would be too much to ask
for how long have you been working on this game
with Unity?

Great game!
One suggestion: it would be awesome if you could have
sound effects for the bike rider when he hits something
and he falls down off his bike. It would give more impact
feeling to the player.

Great game!

How is this not a rip-off of Trials HD or their earlier versions of this game, and why have they not pursued legal action against you yet?

Tooko, I would greatelly appreciate if you could give a reply to my post above.

P.S. I actually don’t think the game is a rip-off.

We’ve been working on the game for the last 12 months though not full time. If we’d worked on it full time then approx 4 months.

This is something we intend doing in an update.
PS. Thanks for the kind words.

Tooko

looks fun… just went to get it and it’s not available in the US app store :frowning:

Hi, the game is now back on the app store under the new name of MotoTrialz.
You can check out the new video on the MotoTrialz website
