a) Which very good games, like for instance Braid, do you know which support a Xbox 360 controller on OSX?
b) Is there a better driver solution around than the Xbox 360 Controller Driver?
c) Does there exist a similar program like XPadder for OSX?
c) No, as there exists no DirectInput or XInput on OSX - more correctly, the osx has no system standard input library for game devices at all (why do you think are 5 button+ mices so useless and troublesome while windows supports up to 32button mices)
I have no idea but 32 buttons for one hand for sure leaves some space for a number of noticeable mutations.
I just purchased a Logitech Gampad F310, which is Mac compatible. It’s got just as many buttons as the 360 controller, just has the D-Pad and analog stick switched. I know windows registered the controller as a 360 controller, so perhaps you could try using logitechs mac driver to get a 360 controller working? It shouldn’t work because its not a 360 controller, but Vista does see it as such, worth a shot right?
I have it working with the driver i’ve mentioned above already. Now whilst it works i also could imagine a more comfortable one but the real problem is that not too many games, at least the ones i gave a try and those i’m interested in, seem to support controllers on OSX, which i find rather surprising as many would perfectly work together with a controller. Therefore there seems to be something wrong and a way to fix this on a user level would be using a tool like XPadder. I just don’t see a lot of reason playing a platformer or shmup with the keyboard when there is a controller resting next to you.
Does the logitech driver allow you to redirect keyboard input to the controller?
This is really annoying. Almost to such a degree that i’m tempted doing a proper platformer/shump for OSX on my own.
Dose anyone know about the support situation of Xbox 360 and other controllers on Linux? Is this more a no-brainer or no-go area?
Hmm just went to check it out and it seems that even though the packaging touts Mac support, there are no software downloads for Mac OS with the controller.
Did some googling and found this: ControllerMate
perhaps that will help?
EDIT: It seems its limited to 10 keys in the free version and unlimited when purchased for 15$
Wow, this looks groovy and like the solution.
Schematic programming, building blocks, heck this looks more advanced than Unity! ;O)
Thanks a lot, i’ll definately give it a try today.
Okay i have it running. I’m glad i had some Virtools experience in my rucksack. :O)
You’re welcome! Glad it works for you! I found it buried a few links deep from a forum somewhere on the web. Only took me a few minute to find though.
Well, i gave google a try as well before asking here but taking the XPadder for OSX route i only ended up with people asking for it too.
I found it in a very strange way. Googled somthing like xpadder MAC, and then xpadder mac equivalent, then mac controller program then found a blog reviewing xpadder and someone mentioned this program in their post. Googled the name of the program and there you go! Not the most direct route forward. It was definitely hidden. I have done a ton of searches though on odd things, so I feel I have a certain skill at digging through the net to find things.
It was not a straight forward search, that was for sure.
Well, if i ever need some help again, i know whom to ask. :O)
I’ve never used it, but it looks like this could be a possible option as well:
