The two main controls at this time are the age of the game and the popularity. I think this little tool will be a pretty huge boon to niche titles and small indies, since a lot of people will at least scan through the right side of that slider.
Pretty interesting.
This is the first time I’ve been able to get decent and non random seeming recommendations out of Steam. I think this will help sales for relatively new niche titles for a bit until the Steam community figures out how to ruin this also.
Hopefully it will work well. Right now their recommendations are just terrible. I have a pretty narrow band of games I play, and it never recommends ones that fit that band and always recommends games that seem super random to me.
Is there a way to select which tags actually matter to us? I played a few games with female protagonists, Steam being the genius it is concluded I played them because of the female protagonists and has recommended me tons of garbage
That’s interesting. When I slide 2/3 way toward niche, I get some of the most niche games on Steam. If I go all the way to the right, I get crazy niche stuff. What kind of stuff do you see when you slide it to niche?
My taste is definitely more ‘niche’ taste, so maybe it makes sense.
Yeah, you can add or even exclude tags which is nice.
niche doesn’t mean obscure. I’d consider most of those to be pretty niche. a 2d game about manually moving warehouse inventory around to sort it and fill orders is pretty niche.
After seeing @Arowx 's list of niche games, I can no longer think to myself that my list ‘is some of the most niche titles on steam’ - his is waaaay more niche than mine.
Thing is though - that’s kinda evidence that the recommendation engine actually works. It’s actually recommending stuff based on our taste.
