Jack the Ripper's Miller's Court project

This is a bit of an update on a project I’ve been pottering with. The intention is to create quite a big part of Victorian London but this bit (miller’s Court) has taken me so long I doubt I’ll accomplish my wish. Anyway, this is Miller’s Court - the scene of Jack’s final murder in 1888. The room that you can enter is number 13, which was the actual murder scene. The model on the bed (mannaquine) is in the actual postion as she was found (just google ‘Jack the Ripper, Miller’s Court’ for the low down if you’re not familiar with the crimes).

This scene is a WIP - it’s an UNFINISHED version of Miller’s Court so that I might gain some advice and feedback please.

It’s NOT a game - just a walk-around scene.

Some notes:
You have free-roam of Miller’s Court but cannot go into any of the houses yet. (each house will be accessible eventually)
You can only go up the alleyway as far as Prater’s door (Prater’s will be accessible eventually).
The only room that is accessible at the moment is No. 13 Which can be entered by clicking on the front door.
Move about the scene by pressing W,A,S,D keys on your keyboard. moving your mouse will pan the camera.
press the following keys for:
higher view = R (roof)
lower view = F (floor)
zoom = Z
wide view = X
reset view = C

You could expand this , A Historical Journal into the events that transpired in book format could fill in a huge amount of subject matter, such which detectives were on the case, examination of the crime scene. evidence found.

Like to see More

Hey could you put an screenshots or gameplay footage? Seems really interesting and i love detective games so definitely going to be keeping my eye on this

Here is a thread with some screenshots. Like I say, this is not a game but a walk-thru of the scenes described in the Jack the Ripper murder case of 1

My original intention was to create some sort of mini MMO sent in Whitechapel London 1888 but I think that idea was a little too grand for my abilities. i’ve decided to just construct some walk-throughs and ‘key’ JtR scenes. At least for now.

thanks

Nice work Richard - it takes me back about ten years.

I built stuff in VRML in those days and created a version of Whitechapel for a multiplayer online chat site. My “Whitechapel” was rather compressed - in geography so is not a true map of the area. In addition, total VRML code and the graphical assets had to be compressed (total ~0.5Mb) as most visitors had only 33kb phone modems and at best 8Mb video cards.

Whitechapel

Video quality is not the best - I was a rookie at creating video files and the VRML fog effect did not get captured well.

MC is fascinating. You mention the Prater door that leads to the room above Mary Kelly’s that was also the scene of a murder with echos of Jack the Ripper. In 1909, a young woman named Kitty Ronan, and possibly a lady of the night, was found upstairs with her throat cut. There was also another murder close to where the passageway starts on Dorset Street, renamed to Duval street in the early 1900s, in the 1960s. Quite a neighbourhood.

Hope you continue working on it.

cheers, gryff
