Job Hunting Tips

Hey everyone,

I’ve been struggling to find any paid Unity programming work and was wondering if anyone had any good tips or resources for finding work, other than obviously posting in the collaboration section.

Thanks

this website might have something useful:

Make yourself a website saying what you do, and put it in your signature.

Having a nice and easy to read website helps a lot. I completely agree with the above post.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I really appreciate you guys taking the time to help me out.

A very good portfolio, and lots and lots of networking.

Put a dab of vanilla extract behind your ear so you smell like fresh coookies. People will feel more at ease with you. That’s assuming you make it to the in-person interview.

I looked at your profile and there is no information.
One thing you can do is make sure you have an internet presence of some kind. Like a web page.

Put up a resume. Show some samples of your work. If your using unity, you have to prove that you mean business. Unity has the distinct advantage of having the web player so there really isn’t an excuse to not be able to show your work. Even if it’s private access to potential employers.

Networking on here might help. If people see you on here and your contributing to the community, you will be recognized an more likely to be trusted.

Remember that there’s a lot of competition, and not a lot of paid work out there until you are established and have some clients that can be references for you.

You can try contracting sites, I have seen the occasional unity project, and plenty of iPhone projects. Some paying ok money. Enough to buy your unity licenses with the first job.

At the end of the day getting yourself and your work out there. Finishing projects and having published games and good references are what will get you paid work. (Assuming you have talent).

Thanks for the tips shared here on the Job hunting. Those information would be more useful for the job seekers in finding their job. By the way I found the good job site Cloudjobs which is the best online source for the job seekers in Cloud computing industry.

Something else you can look at

www.gamedevmap.com

It presents Game Development, production, and mixed Game Dev companies world wide.

As for portfolio, yes it is important to have a website, a few business cards for when you meet people in person, whether on site or at a convention.

Also remember to be professional and show a willingness to learn anything new in order to show how adaptable you are.

Teaching others what you know and accepting what they teach you also proves how well you can work within a team.
