Joe Danger's "fluffy" shaders quality ?

This is the first recent-title that comes on my mind when I think in a good quality graphics side-scrolling game.

I often use these simple games as inspiration for my indie games. And that Joe Danger have beautiful graphics(just an example). I wonder to create the same here… sometimes looks like they use like high poly meshes and most of times I can notice that cartoon shader with the ilumination what do very nice results!

Does anyone tried to create the same results on Unity, any directions???

By fluffy shader, do you mean the rim lighting?
