Hello Unity community. I am new here, so I’m sorry if this is the wrong section for this post.
I was just wondering if there is are any indie games that have an art style similar to PSNs Journey? More favorably a a Unity made game. I’m only curious because my current project using Unity free is slightly based on that style, slightly. And there seem to be no shortage of look-a-likes for Limbo, another game celebrated for its art style.
The project I’m working on now, Exilium, has a similar art style, but only in the way of the two dimensional animated look in a three dimensional world. I would say there are a couple of similarities, but by no means are they lookalikes. (I don’t have any examples on this computer, as all of the shaded artwork screenshots are on my work computer). I’ve seen a few different games that have a similar art stlye around here, though. I can’t think of any off the top of my head, but I’m sure you’ll stumble across one or another in the WiP section.
Have you read this thread? Since you’re new, might be worth a gander. Journey was a large project, by a skilled team, led by Jenova Chen - who maybe one of the finest young designers in the industry. The art style in Journey is beautiful and elegant, like his mechanics - both are worth studying.
Hello everyone. I figured that since I posted my Journey inspired game on the W.I.P section, I might as well answer my old question.
I’ve finished the project over six months ago and left it for dead deep within my slave drive.
But, anyway, I was able to make a Journey-esque game using only Unity free, gimp, blender, and an old raycast based indie bloom effect script.
And even though it was only a small exercise at making and manipulating art assets, and not nearly on the scale as the actual Journey,
I’m fairly satisfied with how it turned out.

P.S. Sorry I couldn’t edit the OP, I had to make a new account because I forgot the email address for the old one.
