Jurassic park Trespasser remake

Here’s some updated images,I’m starting to shape the final terrain and add proper rocks and palms. This is the opening beach level area of the environment.

I’m seeing very nice progression here. Do you plan on putting up a web-player or something at some point so we can explore?

Yeah that’s my main goal, should be too far off till a demo.Hopefully will find out from that the performance so I can decided if im doing the whole thing openworld or breaking it up into levels.

lol I used to love trespasser! Not only did I put up with the glitches, mine PC ran it like 15fps lmao

Those latest screen shots look fantastic!
Is this Unity (Free) ?

Im using Unity pro mainly for the water and when all the plants are added it will need proper optimising.

Some more shots of work in progress, adding rocks and vegetation…

Well at least the physics part will be easy.

Wow you are MY HERO!!!
I loved trespasser- it was one of the most innovative games I have ever seen- I hope you keep the hand mechanics since that was the most important bit.

In my case I remember I played it up to (level 3 I think) several times, since later on the game would get texture glitches and become really broken/hard/etc

Also, even though I’m a Unity guy, wouldn’t Cryengine be more suitable for this since it specializes in forresty environments?

I would love to use cryengine for this to be honest but it doesn’t run on my laptop that well,it would be much better suited for the jungle stuff for sure.I’m having to be so careful with adding trees in unity since it causes so much slow down and I know visually this wont compare to the other Jurassic park mod/fan games people or working on using cryengine and source engine. For the arm I really haven’t a clue how that would be done, I’m guessing it would be a scripting thing but I wouldn’t know where to start with that.
If anyone has an idea how to do the Trespasser arm then jump in (and do it for me lol).

some new images of the environment progress, also a VERY basic short animation test (the model isn’t mine),fraps killed the framerate but this is my first attempt at any maya-unity animation.Im figuring out the basic of the animation/importing before I start on looking at how exactly scripting the dinosaur to interact with the player will work (if you know scripting and want to do it for me feel free!)

I’m still a while away from the webplayer demo, lot of small elements to go in plus the dinosaur rigging-scripting.

This is awesome! is there a webplayer coming soon? I am really interested in that.

Also make a full fledged game.

I’ll bare in mind this is still a WIP but just a few notes here.

The rocks don’t blend in with that cliff texture at all, it looks a bit off, I’d suggest either changing the cliff texture to be more similar or adding more rock meshes around it to blend it better. As well it feels like it needs more detail, smaller stones, twigs, saplings and weeds would be nice to litter the currently barren ground.

I remember that albertosaurus model  cool asset, keep up the great work dude its looking awesome.

This is just EPIC! Cant wait!

Hey Conceptcrash,

The graphics rendering is good. The dino animation is also good. Just asking if you don’t mind sharing these info:-

  1. Are you using Unity Pro or Unity Indie version ?

  2. What tools do you use to make the models and do the rigging - Blender or something commercial ?

Thanks,

Nice!

Im using Unity Pro,and modelling is all done in Maya. The Dinosaur was free model already rigged I found just to use for a test.

There going to be lot more vegetation but im being pretty careful with the amount, the last project I worked on lagged a lot when I put in plants and grass. My computer isn’t that powerful so it may have just been that but im keeping the number of plants down until I can test it on other machines.

Any updates?

Be careful with grass, it is the biggest killer of performance in Unity games. I dont know if that is becouse it is poorly handled in engine, or if it is the same in other engines, but just keep in mind keep the number of blades as low as possible and rather use more trees to cover good ammount with vegetation rather than grass. Keep in mind that even if you get monster machine and put tons of grass it might work for you, but you will keep plenty of players down. Maybe good compromise is to make script that simply allows player to render as much grass as he/ she wants.

Please stick to the ‘Original’ arm Physics please, and another arm If you must. People don’t want to see this as a locked-arms FPS.
Look into the physics of the dinosaurs blinking eyes, open and closing mouths and also there Is a Behaviour system for the dinosaurs, but before released they had there emotions set to 100% Aggressive. The Raptors also Jumped.

There were also allot of destructable structures that where going to be added into the game, please for people like me. Watch ‘The Lost world’ and ‘Jp III’
to get Ideas from, try and make It as close to the Films as you can, don’t forget about weathering.

Other that that fantastic work and I hope to play this some-day.
