Just a quick question about blender

I modeled a human female model in blender

But during the modeling process
I imported something from maya

Just to look at
Just to see

But see I was still in the human female blend file

Now I deleted it and it never was used in the human model

So everything about my human female model was made in blender

My problem is that I don’t have a maya licence

And I’m wondering would importing that maya model into my blender human scene

Would that make my human model illegal to use with out a maya licence

OK, so you first opened up a pirate Maya and exported something from it, or did you just get a maya file(.fbx, .md, maybe) and import that? That makes a big difference. If you used the program, it was illegal at that point since you don’t own a license. But I don’t think the using the file itself in Blender would be illegal. So what you have done up to now is kind of borderline, as in I’m not legally competent to give you any truly good advice there. But, if all you did was open up a file you found using Blender, even if you didn’t create the file itself, it should be legal. This of course assumes that the file itself was obtained legally, as in you downloaded it from a website and the file has a CC license or similar.

Like I said, I’m no lawyer, so my advice isn’t legal advice and shouldn’t be taken as such. But honestly, if you have already done something illegal, depending on how you feel about it, you maybe should just continue the project and not do anything else illegal. There shouldn’t be anything wrong with using most images etc… as a sort of reference, but I recommend you make sure of it before you use them, especially if you follow too close to the image. Usually you are better off finding an image that is made on purpose to be a reference image of human anatomy, and then either base your model off of it, or modify the image and base the model off of that.

Be careful with these things though. I don’t know details, but I know that there are a number of things that would make something be considered a derivative of something else. So depending on how much of the image ends up in your product, it may end up being considered a derivative of the other product, forcing you to not be able to use it without proper licensing.

And just to make sure it is understood, my advice is not valid legal advice, and I’d say the same about pretty much any advice you receive here on the forums, though some know more than others here.

Woops i forgot to mention i have a Student Version of Maya
which still doesnt has a Commercial Licence

BTW My Human model was completely made in blender alone

but during modelling the human model i imported something i modelled in a student version of maya for size reference

i was asking can i still use the blender made human model for commercial use even though a maya model was present

and i say was because i deleted it later wen i remembered
i dont possess a payed for version of maya
and i thought i would get into trouble
im hoping i dont
i really dont wanna get on AutoDesks Bad Side

Well, my post still stands, assuming you are trying to use your model for commercial use. I’d say it falls under the same issues as using images off of the internet even just as references for your model. If it is truly just as reference and your model doesn’t even look like the image, than you are probably fine, but it is something that I understand to still not be legal regardless unless the image is free for commercial usage. But that is the risk you take. It probably won’t hurt anything…except maybe your own moral code.

Ok well
Thanks for that
I think you right
Thanks again
