Just Back from GDC and Unity Talk

Saw a nice little talk about Unity today and went to the Unity booth to play around a bit with the 3.0 they had. It seems quite nice and that the iPhone version is bundled in it, meaning hopefully we wont have 2 different Unity versions to load and run. Selecting a pulldown from the shader list also had a separate iPhone section.

Anyhow its looking quite nice , no 3d blend shapes for modelers, but light map generation and occlusion seems to work well.

granted I only played with it for about 5 min …

nice job guys! Keep the features coming!

I was far more invasive on the ol’ Unity guys, they’re doing all the right things in al the right way

So… What we really want to know is, can we ‘borrow’ one of those cool little unity seats?

Need… more… info…

The GDC was great.

Congratulations to Tom and the rest of the Unity team, every time we passed their booth they were all working tirelessly.

Whatever Tom is being paid, he deserves double! Best evangelist/community guy I’ve ever met 8)

As I’m sitting in the train on the last leg of a 24 hour travel from San Francisco, the craziness of it all is just now sinking in with me.

I was there at Unite '07, as a relatively new employee of Unity Technologies, and I was there at GDC 2010 with the crew. Then as now, I was proud to present Unity, and thrilled with the reception it got. My feet are killing me after standing on the floor in the middle of the constant throng of people that wanted to know about Unity, and that kind of energy can keep a guy going for a long, long time.

It was great to meet so many new and old hands at Unity. It was interesting to hear about and in some cases see what people were doing with Unity (Go Semester games : Kick that coconut !). And it was really, really great to see the reception Unity got at GDC.

And now, I think I’ll take a nap :-).

The shooter demo they had showing on Unity 3 looked really nice

BTW: Unity guys - if you find some holes in the screen of the FishTish: it was Bentley!!! I never saw somebody hitting a "touch!"screen like that LOL!!! But he was maybe uber-inspired by the “Detonator” stuff

Cheers,

GDC 2007 (this is our entire booth and conference crew, which was at that point 60% of the entire company):

And now GDC 2009 (wow!):

And the seats being talked about are these (coolest things ever!):

More GDC booth pics can be found here.

Thanks for the words of support guys, last week was incredibly awesome and better than we could have expected. The booth was busy all day every day of the expo, there was chatter about Unity in the halls, in nearly every session, all over the place! Simply put, it rocked, thanks to everyone at Unity Tech, Unity Studios, all our 3rd party partners in our booth (Sandor!) and all the Unity users and fans that showed up to support us.

wheres the booth babes?

Who needs booth babes when you can have Uniformers!

@Aras: Uniformers are really cool. But the natural explanation for the absence of the boot babes is another. They was simply attracted by the beauty of the FishTish and captured by the natural charm and eloquence of Ben. Even very successful and shiny gamedevs like Jonathan from graveck, or outstanding personalities like Higgy did not had any chance against that brute force. Here’s a little proof - harharharrr…

Cheers,
