Just Cause 3 Volumetric Explosions

Just Cause 3 has awesome explosions and I’d like to implement something like them in my Unity game. Could someone point me in the right direction?

I could imagine that such an effect is possible with multiple particle systems, that spawn different parts of the explosion… One could spawn the big sphere on the top and another one the little glowing particles that fly away from that point and so on…
Another approach that could work is to have a procedual mesh that is generated, and rendered along with a special shader that renders the smoke behind the flying parts…
If anyone finds a way to make explosions look that good please notify me, I’m really interested :slight_smile:
