The attribute GenerateAuthoringComponent, while very convenient to use, had a lot of problems: It came with the surprising requirement that the component with this attribute had to be defined in a file of the same name (like MonoBehaviours) The source generation was not reliable and it was slowing down domain reloads The generated Monobehaviour was a black box, trapping users on a path that was hard to optimize for either runtime performance or authoring experience without loss of authoring da…

There’s supposed to be plans to work along these lines anyway.
