Just curious retro computing

There is no marketable reason for this question, it is just to satisfy my curiosity.
Consumers seem to be interested in retro computing nowadays. The latest two machines to come out to my knowledge are the C64 mini and ZX Spectrum Next.
How many of you in their spare time program these machines.

Secondly, even though the NIntendo WiiU is considered an ultimate failure in the eyes of everyone (except me it seems. My only complaint about the system is that there weren’t that many games that APPEALED to ME. For the ones I did buy << WatchDogs, StarFox 0, Angry Birds, and of course Mario 3d World, plus a few others >> I still enjoy playing with the system.) how many of you would consider publishing a game for the system even today.

I haven’t done any serious programming on a C64 in years, but I have seen at least one game get published for the platform in the past year. Sam’s Journey (linked below) was released last Christmas and over three months sold 1,250 copies.

I’ve been toying around lately with what you might call neo-retro computing… designing (emulated) computers in the style of the home computers of yore, but that never actually existed. Currently I’m working on something I call CHIP-16, which is a significant upgrade over CHIP-8.

Wow, that’s neat! I never had a C64; ours was an Apple house. I wonder if anyone’s still publishing games for the Apple //e or its kin? If so, I have some 30-year-old programs I could dust off…

I had actual retro computer programming experience (ZX Spectrum clone, plus another 16bit machine with 64 RAM) in the past.

I wouldn’t bother publishing anything to such platform. Pursuing retro-aesthetic is a better idea.

I haven’t programmed for any older machines for a long time, but I did recently “remake” one. The Acorn Electron in an FPGA for the Replay.

There’s a series of posts with quite bit of info on my blog about the project. Keep thinking of writing a little game for it, but whether I’ll get around to that I’m not sure.

I’m still waiting for my zx spectrum next. Looking forward to getting my hands on it but not sure how much time I’ll be able to spent programming on it. I did do a bit of z80 when I had one as a teen and I’m keen to have a play around with it again but I’m probably just kidding myself as after coding all day for a living I feel a bit burnt out to then do more as a hobby. No doubt it will stay in the box gathering dust
